No fixed roof — cargo is loaded vertically through the top by crane. Ideal for tall machinery, steel coils, granite slabs, and any cargo that won't fit through a standard door.
An open top container is structurally identical to a standard dry container except it has no permanent roof. Instead, the top is covered by removable steel or aluminium roof bows and a heavy-duty waterproof tarpaulin (tarp). The tarp can be partially or fully removed to allow crane or overhead loading.
Open tops are designated OT in booking systems and carry the ISO type code U0. They are available in 20ft and 40ft lengths. The 20ft Open Top is more commonly used because it handles heavier cargo that also reaches the weight limit before filling the volume.
